North Bergen boxers to fight on March 26 show in Boonton

NORTH BERGEN, NJ — Fists will fly when two boxers representing State of Fitness Boxing Club return to action this Saturday, March 26.

Gianmarco Marin and Jair Calixto will compete in separate bouts at an amateur event at Aces Boxing Club in Boonton, N.J. Marin, a 20-year-old from North Bergen, will face Anthony Holloway in 156-pound action, while the 16-year-old Calixto will face Jay Calixto in a 125-pound bout.

Both boxers train at State of Fitness, located at 508 73rd Street in North Bergen, N.J. Marin is trained by coach Mike Pacheco, while Calixto, a junior at North Bergen High School, is trained by his uncle and coach Eric Rosas.

Marin, who started boxing three years ago, will be competing in his fourth fight, and is using the bout as a warm-up for the New Jersey Golden Gloves tournament, which runs from May through June. Boxing has already made him a champion in life, helping him lose over 40 pounds.

Calixto had his first amateur fight in November, winning a decision over a more experienced opponent in New York City.

Both Calixto and Marin, plus teammate Josh Vivar, are scheduled to compete again on Friday, April 29 at the Elks Lodge in Boonton.

State of Fitness opened in 2016 and is owned by Desmond Boyle, senior firefighter at the North Hudson Regional Fire Department. The gym has developed numerous amateur champions from tournaments such as the Golden Gloves, Diamond Gloves and Battle on the Beach.

Aces Boxing Club is located at 718 Main Street. Tickets, priced at $30 for general admission, are available at the door. First fight is scheduled for 3 p.m.
